Mount Pleasant Health Centre is a large training practice in Exeter, Devon with a registered population of nearly 17,500 patients. The clinicians are supported by a multi-disciplinary team offering a wide range of healthcare services. The practice is forward-thinking and works with partners across the city to deliver services which meet the needs of their population.

Mount Pleasant Health Centre is a research active practice participating in a range of NHS-Approved research studies with full ethical approval that aim to improve care, develop new treatments and better understand how to keep patients healthy.
We take part in a wide range of commercial and non-commercial clinical research studies across a range of conditions including:
- Surveys about your health or experiences of care
- Studies looking at specific conditions including, but not limited to, Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis, Skin conditions
- Prevention and lifestyle research, such as diet, exercise or sleep
- Trials of new or existing medicines
We deliver research studies under the umbrella of the South West Peninsula Regional Research Delivery Network which is part of the NHS National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). We have experienced Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators and Study Co-ordinators who are trained in Good Clinical Practice and have robust processes in place to ensure effective research management and governance and commercial research trial delivery and assurance.
We take part in research because we believe in better care, better treatments and better outcomes for our patients. Since 2023, we have participated in over 25 diverse studies including clinical trial for Cyte Global.
Our facilities
Mount Pleasant Health Centre is a modern purpose-built practice, close to Exeter city centre, built with sustainability in mind. We have dedicated clinical space to conduct research activities with access to essential research related equipment including:
- Centrifuge
- Monitored sample fridge
and a team of experienced staff enthusiastic about research, providing excellent patient care and improving patient outcomes.
Our research team
The practice is fortunate in having two experienced lead research GPs and a newly qualified nurse who has gained her GCP certification and is keen to be involved in research activities. The clinical research team is supported by study coordinators with experience in delivery of both commercial and non-commercial studies.
