At Topsham Surgery & Glasshouse Medical Centre, our doctors and clinical team deliver a wide range of NHS services to support our patients.
We are a two-site practice, with our main site in Topsham (Topsham Surgery) and a branch site at Countess Wear (Glasshouse Medical Centre). We care for 12,000 across the two sites.

We are proud to be a research-active organisation, supporting clinical research and trials across a range of disease groups.
We deliver research studies under the umbrella of the Regional Research Delivery Network (South West Peninsula) which is part of the NHS National Institute for Health and Care Research. We have experienced Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators and Study Co-ordinators who are trained in Good Clinical Practice and have robust processes in place to ensure effective research management and governance and commercial research trial delivery and assurance.
We have recently acted as a PIC site for the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital site for two commercial cardiology studies; of which patient engagement has been exceptional.
Our Practice Manager also works with the Research Delivery Network at national and regional levels in providing clinical system support for research, which includes population feasibility reporting during the design and selection process, reports to assist with patient recruitment across GP practices and data entry templates for unified recording of research activities.
Our facilities
We have dedicated clinical space to conduct research activities with access to essential research related equipment including:
- 4x Temperature controlled and monitored clinical refrigerators (samples and investigational medicinal product fridges)
- Secure medicines storage with restricted access
- Centrifuge and standard clinical equipment including ECG machine and bariatric scales
- Space for monitoring visits and supervised remote monitoring
- Our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platform is SystmOne
- We can easily run searches within our clinical database to identify eligible patients
- A digital and technology enabled practice
- Pharmacy locations very nearby within walking distance (and on site at our Glasshouse Medical Centre branch site).
